Peace Of Mind Parenting

Mother to mother support, love and acceptance.

“No one is ever quite ready; everyone is always caught off guard. Parenthood chooses you. And you open your eyes, look at what you've got, say "Oh, my gosh," and recognise that of all the balls there ever were, this is the one you should not drop. It's not a question of choice.”

Why I Do What I Do

Ever since that day 15 years ago, in my grandmothers living room, when I felt a flutter in my belly for the first time, I started worrying about dropping the ball. The enormity of it all washed over me like a silent wave, and I realised that just as no one knew I had just felt my unborn son move for the first time, just as I was alone in that I would be alone in my mothering of him. I am the only mother he has.

So yes, we live in fear of dropping those balls and with the inevitability that they will be dropped.

My exploration of coaching started when I not so much dropped those balls but instead flung them across the room repeatedly. I was then a mother of 4. The older two avoided me at all cost, and the younger two were too young to know how to do that, so got the brunt of my impatience and grumpiness. Every day started with an intention to try to be better and almost in the same breath a resignation that I will be grumpy, annoyed and short-tempered "because they made me".

With the support (and brutal honesty) of the people closest to me I decided to start my journey back, my reversion, to who I once was. The goal was not perfection. The goal was authenticity, peace of mind and taking responsibility for my actions. Admitting no one can "make me" do anything. Admitting that I am making choices every day of how to be with my husband, children, family, and friends. This is when I found coaching.

In my blog I will go into details about the profound changes coaching and mentoring has had not only on my parenting but my life as a whole! In the last few years, I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone, exposed my flaws and embraced them, found the strength to live proactively and not reactively.
